Creating Possibilities for Chinese Folk Music ByLin Jing　December 26, 2020 Shen Jiaju performs during the closing ceremony of 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Shen Jiaju began learning to play pipa a pear-shaped, stringed traditional Chinese musical instrument when she was a child. In 2012, two years after she graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy, in Shanghai, she moved to the United States, to pursue further studies. In 2017, Shen and her friends formed an indie electronic band, The Either, and they have since used traditional Chinese instruments to create modern music, and to explore the future with music. Further Studies  Shen was admitted to Shanghai Theatre Academy in 2006. Two years later, she was selected as one of volunteers to serve during the Beijing Olympic Games award ceremonies.
