UN Philippines lauds COVAX for 2 million COVID-19 vaccines for the Philippines

Manila, 8 May 2021 The United Nations (UN) in the Philippines Resident Coordinator Gustavo Gonzalez welcomed the delivery today of more than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility, the international partnership established to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. Today’s shipment is in addition to half a million doses delivered in March and is part of the 4.5 million total doses committed to the Philippines from COVAX.
COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as well as the World Bank, civil society organizations, manufacturers, and others.
Defence Force troops return home from St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Port of Spain: Fifty (50) members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) returned to Trinidad and Tobago today, Saturday May 01, 2021 after being deployed on Tuesday April 13, 2021 to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines following the eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano.
Some of TTDF troops arrived at the Inter-Island Ferry Terminal in Port of Spain on board the Galleons Passage at approximately 12:00 noon and were welcomed home by Minister of National Security the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds M.P. and Chief of Defence Staff Air Vice Marshall Darryl Daniel. The other troops arrived at Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, aboard the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard vessel the TTS Brighton.

PASIG CITY, April 9 (PIA) The United Nations (UN) in the Philippines, represented by Resident Coordinator Gustavo Gonzalez and heads of UN agencies, met with Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje as well as with DOH teams and experts, to declare its full support for the roll-out of the Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.
