lthough we ve long been used to making the trek to see art in a gallery, the events of the last year have perhaps kept some of us at home. But a new pop-up art showcase hosted by Laboratory, Spokane s interactive art residence program, is bringing the art gallery to us. Its new pop-up style series is called
Visions of the Future, and it will be taking the works of various artists from around the country and projecting them onto buildings around town. Kryston Skinner, executive director of Laboratory, had planned on launching an interactive light show in Riverfront Park sometime in 2020. But COVID came along and changed all that, so Skinner says the organization was looking for some kind of interactive piece that could be mounted through safer methods.

Annual festival brightens cloudy Portland nights; it ll light things up Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13.
The Portland Winter Light Festival had to evolve in its sixth year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and government safety restrictions. It s called the Portland Winter Light (non)Festival this year and includes a series of installations, video projections and more around Portland, in which spectators can be socially distanced.
Photographer Diego Diaz visited many of the sites with lights last weekend and documented them with the accompanying photos.
The largest concentration of installations are in downtown Portland, around Pioneer Courthouse Square. Around the city, lights will come on again this weekend, 6-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Feb. 12-13.
