Sudan-Ethiopia border conflict escalates further as 7 soldiers and a civilian are killed

The Sudanese-Ethiopian border tensions witnessed rapid developments after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) reported the killing of a Sudanese citizen and seven army soldiers by Ethiopian armed forces who raided and captured the El Usra area in El Fashaga, El Gedaref, on Wednesday last week. Both parties accuse each other of unacceptable behaviour.

Technical committee working on demarcation of Sudan-Ethiopian border

The Technical Committee for the Demarcation of the Administrative Borders of the three states of eastern Sudan has completed its first exploratory tour in El Gedaref state. A separate committee is working to restore authentic Sudanese place names in El Gedaref’s El Fashaga at the Sudanese-Ethiopian border. The Sudanese Border Commission yesterday announced the formation of a committee in El Gedaref that will restore authentic Sudanese place names in El Fashaga locality under the supervision of the governor and with the participation of the commission.

Sudan warns Ethiopia over Renaissance Dam sovereignty

Abu Dhabi: Sudan hinted it couldreconsider Ethiopia’s sovereignty over the Benishangul region, on which the Renaissance Dam is built, if it continued its approach of disavowing international agreements related to the waters of the Nile and the borders between the two countries. This came after the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, pledged his country adheres to the second filling of the dam next July, assuring his citizens he will overcome the challenges facing his country. In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced statements by Ethiopian officials who stated that Sudan is working to bind their country to “colonial agreements”, referring to the 1902 border agreements and the 1959 Nile waters agreements.

Tensions between Sudan and Ethiopia escalate further

Politicians call for the expulsion of the Ethiopian ambassador in Khartoum.  The Ethiopian military aircraft penetrated the Sudanese airspace when a high-ranking military delegation, headed by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, was visiting El Gedaref to discuss the recent border issues with officials in the eastern Sudanese state. The delegation also visited the area in El Gureisha where six women and a child were killed in an attack by Ethiopian gunmen earlier this week.
