TUESDAY UPDATES: MU Health: COVID-19 vaccine appointments available Thursday thru Saturday If you want to get a coronavirus vaccine, MU Health Care reports there are many COVID-19 vaccine appointment slots available to all Missouri adults Thursday through Saturday. Anyone interested in receiving a vaccine can visit muhealth.org/covid19-vaccine-scheduling to schedule an appointment. Patients younger than 18 will need a signed parental consent. The first-dose appointment slots are available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 15, 16 and 17. The second dose will be scheduled 21 days later. Those who need help scheduling an appointment can call our COVID-19 vaccine call center at 573-771-CARE (2273). The call center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

TUESDAY UPDATES: South African coronavirus variant found in adult living in Jackson County ABC 17 News The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting the first confirmation of the South African coronavirus variant in the state was found in a Jackson County resident. Officials confirmed the variant through the whole genome sequencing conducted through a commercial laboratory. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows 374 cases of the South African variant have been reported to the CDC in the United States as of April 5. Officials report this variant is not known to cause more severe disease and it is not clear whether it spreads more readily than other strains. Although this strain can reduce the effectiveness of some vaccines, vaccines still provide strong protection against severe illness and death.

FRIDAY UPDATES: Boone County uses 1,802 out of 2,300 vaccine doses during today’s event Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services reported giving 1,802 coroanvirus vaccine doses to eligible residents from throughout the state at today s event. There are 498 doses left from today s allotment and will be used for individuals who are homebound or the doses will be redistributed to local vaccinators in Boone County. Sara Humm with the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services says there were a large number of people that no-showed their appointment today. The organization asks that if folks sign up at multiple locations that they please be sure to cancel any unneeded appointments ahead of time.
