The MMRDA plans to develop a large area along the west coast of Malad. This 1,387-hectare land, consisting of six villages, will be developed as a special development zone (SDZ) for socially-driven development. The focus of the SDZ will be on affordable housing, public spaces, social infrastructure, and potential areas for tourism and film production.
MMRDA: The land has huge commercial potential as it is located on Mumbai’s coast and offers transport connectivity via Metro 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and the proposed Coastal road, sources said.
Four such projects have total 15,720 flats developed in 88 separate buildings, a few of which are under construction. Of these 3,234 flats are of 320 sq ft and 12,486 flats are of 160 sq ft.
The MMRDA is likely to get the directive for modifying the far ends of Mumbai Metropolitan Region for which the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) has been formed
