GHAZIABAD: Testing at MMG Hospital has been affected as eight out of 10 staffers involved in sample collection have contracted Covid-19. While more than 600 tests were being conducted earlier, the centre is now managing less than 300, partly due to shortage of testing kits.
“Testing has been severely affected. Some of our nurses are also down with Covid, which has affected overall work in the hospital, which includes vaccination,” said Dr Anurag Bhargava, MMG’s chief medical superintendent.
An official from MMG hospital later said there was a shortage of viral transport media (VTM), which is part of the test, and a requisition has been sent to the health department. “Though RT-PCR or antigen kits are available, it is VTM that we are short on. So, we are not able to conduct as many tests as we wanted to,” said the official. According to sources, the hospital has less than 100 vials of VTM at present.
