in georgia. how vulnerable is john cornyn? you know, craig, he is vulnerable, and to me the question is what we saw from beto o rourke in texas in 2018 was that the best that a democrat can do in this current time, or is the state changing so much that now all of a sudden that s where a generic candidate could end up being. i think the answer to that question tells you maybe how vulnerable john cornyn is. i always thought in a lot of ways ted cruz in a midterm environment and particularly with democrats so fired up against ted cruz is always a little bit more vulnerable than john cornyn, but when it comes to the field right now, and despite all the talk about beto o rourke should run for the senate in texas, that candidates like m.j.hagar who has proven to raise a tremendous amount of money, royce west, manna edwards, a houston still councilmember, there s a lot of talent, young and established in that texas field right now. the georgia race to me, when you
cornyn is running again. democrats had hoped that beto o rourke would jump in the senate race. would that have been the best candidate? i think they got mj hagar. i think that is a very strong candidate and i don t think that they are sad about it. you hit it in your question, though, chuck. is the democratic party prepared to invest there. not only the national democratic party but the local texas democratic party as well, which has not is not nearly as robust as the republican party there. we were down there during the midterms in october. the biggest complaint i got was beto s hoarding all the money. he didn t invest, he didn t plant some seeds that he could have planted and nobody else did because the dscc didn t believe it. they said, beto, good luck. so the national party did not invest. and it s obvious look, it s another a small thing, it s going to take a large
welcome back. a republican congressman s comments comparing his midterm race to war are not sitting well with his purple heart recipient challenger, texas incumbent john carter called the fight against his opponent a war, going onto say, quote, we re going to win, i will beat this lady. hagar is a combat search pilot who served three tours in afghanistan and is vying for the district 31 spot. her team released this ad in response to the comments. congressman carter, i m mj hagar, you know, the lady you re at war with. well, respectfully congressman, you don t know [ bleep ] about war. i did three tours in afghanistan and i m here to tell you that a campaign is a discussion about
tough race his entire career. so we ll show him tough, then we ll show him the door. wow. a spokesperson for john carter s campaign told hardball hagar s assertion is absolutely untrue. john carter is respected because of his responsiveness to his constituents. i m joined by her, the democratic candidate m.j. hagar. thank you. i was going to call you congresswoman, but i ll wait for that. tell me about this thing with carter. did you actually go his congressional office and were refused help with your efforts to open the door to women in combat? i did. well called. we mailed. we knocked on doors. it was a joint effort of dozens of women who had served in ground combat without the acknowledgment that it was ground combat. and some representatives from both sides of the aisle and staffers were very receptive. mine was not. i thought at first it was because he disagreed with me. he is not very responsive to constituents, period. he hasn t had a town hal in five
