[sirens] gail knows the cost of rampant street violence all too well. he was my son and best friend. his son was shot and killed after a family halloween party in october. he is just one of the more than 767 people killed in chicago this year, the highest number of murders in three decades. city officials are struggling to address both the surge of violence and a recent string of brazen daytime robberies on the magnificent mile. the mayor put some blame for the crimes on the business owners. i m disappointed they aren t doing more to take safety and make it a priority. chicago is by no means alone.
