約5カ月半の国際宇宙ステーション（ISS）滞在を終えた宇宙飛行士の野口聡一さん（56）が20日、茨城県つくば市の五十嵐立青市長を訪問し、帰還を報告した。市から預かりISSに運ばれた市のイメージキャラクター「フックン船長」のぬいぐるみも返還された。近く公開する方針。
同市には宇宙航空研究開発機構（JAXA）の筑波宇宙センターがあり、野口さんとのつながりは深い。
この日、五十嵐市長が「お帰りなさい。フックン船長を連れて行ってもらえ、ありがたい」と話すと、野口さんは「市民も見られるよう展示されると素晴らしい」と応じていた。【宮田哲】
