PARIS France on Wednesday detained seven former members of left-wing Italian extremist group the Red Brigades, in a gesture ordered by President Emmanuel Macron designed to resolve a long-standing source of tension with Rome.
France has long served as a haven for Red Brigades figures from the 1970s and 80s under a policy set by former Socialist leader Francois Mitterrand, which has caused tensions with Italy.

France detains seven ex-Red Brigades members
Paris says police swooped to arrest seven individuals suspected of having belonged to the Red Brigades. The group terrorized Italy for two decades. Among its crimes was the murder of a former Italian prime minister.
The suspects had been hiding in France for decades to avoid jail time in Italy
The French presidency on Wednesday said it had detained seven former members of the far-left Red Brigades terror group, at the request of Italy.
The Elysee Palace said a search was underway for three other people linked to the group that carried out numerous violent attacks during the 1970s and 1980s.
