tonight. what s being done to keep them all safe? we have a live report with preparations. in los angeles, 21 fires and a $61,000 reward. people are scared, authorities are desperate. from the cnn center in atlanta, this is cnn saturday morning. i m e.d. hill. we start this hour in iowa. it is hard to believe, there are only three days left until the first votes are cast in the republican presidential race. it seems like we ve been waiting for a year or so. so, of course, all the candidates are in iowa. try and shake every last hand or are they? paul steinhauser joins us now from des moines. so is mitt romney there? he s on his way back, e.d. he s right now in new hampshire. this morning, he was in hampton, new hampshire, a breakfast that e5 . remember, new hampshire goes one week after iowa. iowa goes on tuesday. new hampshire goes second in the nation. romney was here yesterday and when he left, he left the keys of the bus in good hands, with chris christie. he endorsed
charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest. take a look at this. near los angeles, one shopper actually pepper sprayed the people in line ahead of her at a walmart to get the year s hot video game console and it worked. sandra endohas developments. what more have you learned about the attack? it s almost impossible to believe that this actually happens during the holiday shopping season, but yet here we go again. reporter: yeah, absolutely, jim. that video is so amazing, and incredible to see the crowd as they go after these discounted items in walmart. and police say they are looking for a woman in her 30s who pepper sprayed the crowd as that deal went on sale. a large number of people were surrounding the area where xboxs were diswouldncounted and ten p were treated at scene last night. one person affected by the pepper spray and recorded the frenzy on tape. tell me about this woman. did you see her before? line waiting for this deal to open up
they think that obama is so vulnerable that they re thinking about a base candidate to win the general election, which is unusual. it doesn t always work. it s risky. when mccain was nominated last time they were making a safer, more moderate choice. they were thinking let s think with our heads not with our harts. in 1996 when dole was nominated let s think with our heads, not with our harts. but this time i think the republican party has moved so far right, hearts and minds are together in trying to elect someone like rick perry. i think it s very hard for anybody to get to the left of mitt room knee who s trying to play it both ways. he s saying i m a conservative and independence. you know what else would be hard is getting a house bigger than mitt romney s? he s filed an application to increase his house from 3,000 square feet to 11,000 square feet. that seems pretty out of touch. that s something that will hurt him. he just needs a little more
very much. that helped rick perry with the tea party. some of these controversial comments they might not be looked upon favorably by the media, by the establishment, the tea party really likes those. and he s doing quite well with the tea party now. he s already beginning to really step on michele bachmann s movement. that s good for him. what does that mean for her, then? will he be taking votes from her. mitt romney? he s been a governor for almost 11 years. he s got some establishment support for that and being the governor of texas you come across a lot of people. he s had a very big economy to deal with. he does have some establishment support and he ll be competing with mitt room knee for that. if you look at the new polls he s taking support from michele bachmann and a mitt romney. and that s going to bode for vel
they seemed to be taking easy shots at mitt romney. they don t know what the candidate is going to be, but mitt romney is the presumed front runner. as democrats you don t want to get in there and try to pick a candidate and help somebody out and get an unintended consequence. i think they think the way you beat mitt room knee is by infusing the sense of him as a flip-flopper so doing that early on is a strong thing for them to do. they feel so hard to predict, but relatively confident that he ll eventually be the nominee. that s throwing up some dust and perhaps creating doubts in republican minds as well. so muddying the field. i think they think the candidates get weaker from romney on down. although it doesn t necessarily help romney that you have the white house saying maybe he s the person who we have to deal with and beginning to try to select an enemy.
