[ cheers and applause ] brian: did mitt romney clear the air when it comes to his business experience? joining us, a man that s worked with him for a long time examine gave a million dollars for his campaign. he was hired at bain capital for no money and wrote a best sell ing book. ed conner, former colleague of mitt romney, how do you think your buddy did last night? i thought he did great. i thought he had the right emphasis, which is he talked about bain capital, but he emphasizes the compassion he has and honesty that goes behind the business career that made bain capital. brian: you ve been asked to defend and define what bain capital is while mitt romney sat on the side lines while the president went at him. last night was the first time he started laying out what he s done for companies and what he tried to do for others. i think all summer i ve been saying this is the time. he
unemployment at 8%. we could bring that down to 5% that you should expect that to occur at some point. we re four years into running well below the full utilization of the economy. so if somebody can get the business confidence up, get the investments made, we should expect to see higher growth as we move back to the long-term trend line. brian: we keep hearing big money is on the side lines and this disenchantment with the president and his economic team. it almost sounds like a catch phrase. but you know these people of the what could happen? could the economy hit turbo speed if there is a change in the white house? oh, yeah. i think if businesses had confidence, they can put money to work quickly. i think you could see a rebound in the stock market, people would be more willing to consume, more willing to invest and take the business risks that create jobs. i would expect that just from his election. brian: ed, people saying, that s his friend. of course he s going to say th
show everybody you re not just saying that? there is a theory called rational expectations. people look forward into the future and they behave rationally based on what they see. if you see government expenses ran at 18 to 20% historically, if you look at the cbo forecast, runs up to 24% over the next five years the next 25 years, i don t think anybody looks at that and says, unless we do something differently and make some very thoughtful and careful changes, that that s a great business environment. when you see the president fighting to avoid any changes, the current president, i think if you have somebody in there who says, i m going to be careful and thoughtful about making the changes, which will put the long-term trajectory back where it needs to be, where it was historically, which produced the success of the u.s. that s go going to lead to a lot of confidence today. brian: i m sure mitt romney thanks ed conner. good hire. congratulations on the success of your book. th
