Becomes fifth UND player this season to ink a pro deal

Adam Scheel has parlayed an outstanding collegiate career into a professional contract, signing a free agent entry-level deal with the Dallas Stars organization, announced Thursday evening. Scheel set the new UND program record for career goals against average, posting a 1.95 overall in 78 games played over the past three seasons.
Scheel was a Mike Richter Award finalist this season, recording 20 wins and helping North Dakota to a 22-6-1 overall mark with NCHC regular season and tournament titles. The Lakewood, Ohio native was an All-NCHC First Team honoree, finishing the regular season with an NCHC-leading 16 wins with a 1.80 goals against average with a .929 save percentage and four shutouts. He then won four more games in the postseason and played all five overtimes of an epic 3-2 loss in the NCAA Midwest Regional final against Minnesota Duluth, making a career-high 51 saves.

FROZEN FACEOFF MOVING TO GRAND FORKS
Ralph Engelstad Arena will serve as the host venue for the entire NCHC postseason tournament this year, announced Feb. 8. The tournament will be shifted to a single-elimination championship with all eight teams competing for the league’s autobid into the NCAA Tournament. The quarterfinals begin Mar. 12-13 with the semifinals on Mar. 15 and the title game on Mar. 16. There will not be a third-place game this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The University of North Dakota hockey team swept Omaha last week, clinching back-to-back National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season championships. With that, UND had a pair of individual accolades in the convincing 4-1 and 7-1 wins as senior Collin Adams was named the Bauer NCHC Forward of the Week and junior Jacob Bernard-Docker picked up defenseman of the week accolades.
Both players are being honored by the league for the first time this season, bringing UND’s total to 14 winners among a dozen different players. A North Dakota forward has been the NCHC Forward of the Week in five of the last six weeks in which they were eligible.Overall, only one week all season has gone without a North Dakota player among the weekly honorees in weeks in which they’ve played.
