Heading into the heart of the vietnam war. I lived through watergate, joined the National Security Council Staff a few months before nixon resigned. I used to tell people we will be the last few minutes of this recorded event. You can finish watching on booktv. Org. We go live to the House Rules Committee as they meet to work on legislation related to the impacts of the covid19 pandemic on the Postal Service. Post office boxes are being ripped out, shredding machines have disappeared, this is threatening peoples ability to get lifesaving medications and Social Security checks in a timely way. All the while the Postal Service is in need of Additional Resources heading into november. The house acted for more funding months ago but the senate has done nothing, not a thing. The Postal Service, this is an assault on our democracy. These actions call into question whether legal ballots will be counted in states across the country. No wonder there has been such immense public outcry. We see t
Months ago as part of the heroes act, languishes in the senate. My bill includes the 25 billion requested by the Postal Service, leaves will be spit almost entirely by the end of 2021. The knees is that dyer. Alarmingly the Postal Service is under attack from within by its own leadership. The president s new postmaster general is using the lack of funding to justify sweeping changes for the operations and organizational structure of the Postal Service. Within a month of taking Office Postmaster general dejoy began ordering reduction and over time, limits to the daily number of trips from Mail Processing centers, removal of processing equipment and public mailboxes and more. These changes are causing huge delays, reported all across the country, threatening the effectiveness of the Postal Service and undermining our democracy. I wrote to the postmaster general several times, raising concerns about these changes only to be told by his staff that he had not ordered these changes and they
Idea, into your bill, out of your bill, appreciate that. I am curious if there have been any hearings about that. Now and as you stated, it is out of the bill. Lets go forward. Have there been any hearings on this legislation at all . Know, there were no hearings on the postmaster generals actions were he did not perform any of us and told us he wasnt stopping. Our constituents were saying they were being hurt. Can i respond . I would like to say i will give you more. Congressman tom and moran and Susan Collins, all republicans sent their own letters expressing concerns with the postmaster generals actions. I ask unanimous consent to place them into the record and for example congressman from montana stated the postmaster general on august 6th, 2020, delaying mail service is unacceptable as the country continues to combat covid19. It keeps our communities connected. Montanans defendant reliable access to receive prescription drugs, Online Purchases and financial documents. He also quot

Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, everyone. As we begin our final day of consideration of the fy21 spending bills, id like to thank you all for your kind words and well wishes and ask you, please, to indulge me in just a few more reflections. I came to congress in 1989, one of just 31 women in the house and senate and to this committee in 1993 alongside only six other women under the 64member panel. This body is better for the 100 women serving in the 116th congress and for the many women in the room today. Its my honor to address the full committee for my final time as the first woman chair. You know, its ironic [applaus [applause] thank you. Its ironic that back in 1993 i had to choose between serving on appropriations or ways and means. I was fortunate to be given that choice. I chose appropriations because i believed it was the best place to give more people a better chance at a better l
