Legion Riders continue to ‘answer the call’ for children of fallen military, disabled veterans The American Legion Jul 14, 2021 As the 2021 Legacy Run approaches – if you haven’t registered yet, you can do so here – more and more American Legion departments are staging their own in-state Legacy Runs to bring in money for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.  The Department of West Virginia staged its first-ever state Legacy Run in May, raising over $15,000. Kansas also had another successful state ride, bringing in around $32,000. The efforts have earned the praise of National American Legion Riders Advisory Committee Chairman Mark Clark, who will serve as the national Legacy Run’s chief road captain Aug. 22-26.

Local News: Ambulance board not pursuing SWAT medic (6/2/21)

Wednesday, June 2, 2021 New phone service provider requested, approved Board members for Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance District recently decided against pursuing a new position of SWAT medic. Frank Foster, emergency services attorney, weighed in with his thoughts on a SWAT medic at the district. “The program requires special certifications and training,” he wrote in response to the district’s query concerning its responsibilities in providing personnel to the SWAT team. “I do not think one volunteer is enough for the program. In addition, special arrangements would have to be made for securing and qualifying with firearms, and the district purchase the firearms. Buying weapons, storing weapons and special protective gear, plus being on the district’s time and additional training, this becomes quite a budgetary issue.”

The “tees” are beer cans, the “balls” are tennis balls and the “clubs” are whatever participants want to use. The event will be held at Schindler’s Tavern in Benton from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The posting of colors will take place at 12 p.m. and the auction will be at 3 p.m. The entry fee is $100 for a team of four.
