New legislation proposed in California aims to put limitations on law enforcement’s use of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), a technology used to collect large amounts of data and track the real-time movement of hundreds of millions of people without a warrant. California state senator Scott Wiener on Tuesday will introduce the License Plate Privacy act, which would require regular audits of police department’s use of such technology, ban.
Byrnes Mill Police Chief Frank T. Selvaggio has been named the Missouri Police Chief of the Year by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association.
Selvaggio, 62, of Affton said he received the Donald âRedâ Loehr Chief of the Year Award on Dec. 8 in Jefferson City at the organizationâs annual conference.
âI was pretty overwhelmed by it,â said Selvaggio, who was named chief of the Byrnes Mill Police Department in October 2018.
He said he canât take all the credit for the award, though.
âItâs the whole team that made this happen,â Selvaggio said.
Selvaggio said he was shocked to receive the honor.
