Place. We gather at that breakfast for prayer, and to share some time with each other every wednesday morning. Just as were doing this morning. With people from so many different states, different countries, background faiths and beliefs. Wee remind this morning of journey, the journey of faith were all on. We believe that faith is a exist, a gift that were blessed by today and expressed gratitude. Senator wicker. [applause] thank you, bob. The Senate Prayer breakfast dates back to world war ii when a group of legislators met in the senate restaurant. We can only imagine the conversations that took place during those early days as the deadliest conflict in Human History swept the globe. Then as now the weekly meetings which occur when the senate is in session, have remained largely low profile. January 1943, an article from the Washington Post describes them as without fanfare front page publicity or ballyhoo. That is still true. In many ways our Prayer Breakfast is a welcome sanctuary
Thank you. Because too many families have gone through the grief and pain that john and stephanie have gone through. I look forward to working with attorney generalelect maura healy, boston mayor marty walsh and many others on this issue. Because without strong action, many more individuals and families like the greens will have that same terrible experience. Now, when Lieutenant Governor polito and i complained last year we said we were chasing 100 of the vote. Based on the results this morning, we clearly didnt get it. But we campaigned hard in many communities of color, and we did so because we believe these neighborhoods have not benefited from the economic success that has become more commonplace in other parts of the commonwealth. And i think what we need to do is exactly what jesus did when he and now im speaking from a theological point of view and ill let you political thinks put it into your own belly lick. But jesus when he engages the woman who objectively has committed adultery and under the mosaic law, the penalty was stoning, doesnt say dont stone her. First he engages the woman. Not directly at first. But she has this sense that he loves her and he deals with her accusers and establishes himself on her side and then he finally says to her in the end, go and sib sin no more, which makes the whole story. That is the hard thing. It is to hold up justice and still permeate it with love. Because Justice Without love becomes cruelty. And i think that is what we need to do. Now how would you translate that into political wonkery, that is your job to do that. I dont thi
