View Comments Former Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason, a longtime lawman, died at home Friday night, said Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart. He was 64.  Mason battled prostate cancer for several years, including his final days as the county s top copy. Mason began his term as sheriff in January 2016, bringing with him over 35 years of law enforcement experience   from the Jackson Police Department to several state and federal investigations, including FBI task forces, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Secret Service and the Mississippi Office of the Attorney General s Public Integrity Unit.  Mason was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. He began treatments immediately after the diagnosis. A deeply religious man, Mason said at the time he was relying on his faith.

Health your username April 29, 2021 A grand jury in the Northern District of Alabama on Tuesday passed down a criminal indictment of Phillip Anthony Minga of Mississippi, charging him with alleged wire and health care fraud and conspiracy to commit the two unlawful acts. The indictment alleged that former pharmacy operator Minga, beginning around October 2016 through at least September 2019, operated a scheme to defraud federal health care benefit programs through use of interstate wire transmissions. Minga previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud in 2010 related to the sale of insurance, according to the indictment. Subsequently, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) excluded Minga’s medical equipment supplier, Medpoint, from being able to participate in Medicare for 10 years because Minga failed to notify the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of his conviction.
