Jamaican swimmer Keanan Dols has achieved the ‘B’ qualifying mark for rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Swimming in a time trial on Friday at the 2021 Pro Swim Series in Mission Viego, California, United, Dols recorded a new national record of 2:02.15 in the men’s 200m individual medley to win his heat.
With this time, Dols surpassed the 2:03.26 Olympic ‘B’ qualifying standard, and his previous national record of 2:03.74 set on March 24 at the ISCA International Senior Cup in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Achieving the ‘B’ mark doesn’t guarantee an automatic berth for the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Games, which is now set to begin on July 23. He must achieve the ‘A’ qualification mark of 1:59.67 secs to be certain of a spot. However, he has until June 27 to do that.
