runs essay contest
The nonprofit Camp Pendleton Historical Society is running an essay contest focused on the base’s history open to undergraduate students enrolled at San Diego County colleges and universities. Essays should delve into the history of the land now known as Camp Pendleton. Essays can be up to 5,000 words and will be judged on historical accuracy, historical interest, organization and presentation. The first-place prize is $1,000; second place, $500. A letter of application for entry into the contest with name, address, school, area of interest and tentative title of essay must be submitted by March 1 to essaycontest.cphs@gmail.com, with “Essay Contest” in the subject line. GIA offers virtual activities for gem buffs
The Gemological Institute of America offers a number of free virtual activities and resources that are available to the community. For example, folks can learn about the latest gemological research and new discoveries in Gems & Gemology – GIA’s quarterly journal – including the most recent issue on colored stone origin and every issue, back to 1934 at https://www.gia.edu/gems-gemology.
