UNION CITY  Union City s downtown will get another boost, and maybe new businesses and residents, from funding now available to improve or repurpose buildings. Union City Borough is offering the owners of 19 downtown buildings up to $12,000 in matching funds for building improvements. The initiative is the latest in a series of projects to improve the borough s Main Street commercial district. The matching grants follow a year-long structural analysis of the buildings by CityStudio of Pittsburgh. The firm was hired to assess the condition of each of the 19 buildings and provide suggestions to improve them. The $76,000 cost was funded by grants from the Erie Community Foundation and Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority.
