IMDO, MDA conduct integrated Iron Dome, DSWS live-fire tests

The Israel Missile Defense Organisation (IMDO), a division of the Directorate for Defense Research & Development within the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD), in association with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), executed an unprecedented series of complex and co-ordinated air- and missile-defence live-fire intercept tests with the medium-range David’s Sling Weapon System (DSWS) and Iron Dome short-range missile-defence system in November and early December.
DSWS and Iron Dome respectively represent the current middle and lower tier of Israel’s deployed multi-layered air and missile defence system. The upper tier is delivered by the Arrow Weapon System, deploying the Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 anti-tactical ballistic missile exoatmospheric interceptors.

(Courtesy of Israel s Defense Ministry) JERUSALEM The Israel Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency for the first time demonstrated a multilayered air defense system using the Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Arrow weapon systems in a recent series of tests. “Using this approach, a variety of threats may be identified and intercepted via full coordination and interoperability between the systems,” Moshe Patel, the head of IMDO, said Monday. The organization falls under the purview of the Ministry of Defense, whose minster, Benny Gantz, praised the “development of a multilayered air defense system [that] secures us from threats near and far.”

Israel’s defense ministry reported Tuesday that it has successfully tested for the first time a wide range of sea-based aerial defense systems. The tests took place in the past few weeks, with targets fired from sea-borne launchers, imitating various range missiles and drones. All were intercepted successfully by Israel’s multi-tier defense systems – Iron dome, Arrow, and David’s Sling, at times simultaneously.
Head of the Israel Missile Defense Organization in the Ministry of Defense, Moshe Patel said “through these tests, we demonstrated that the State of Israel has a robust, multilayered capability to face various threats – cruise missiles, UAVs [Unmanned Aerial Vehicles] and ballistic threats”.

Tests of a new sea-based aerial defense system were performed during the past few weeks. The so-called Iron Dome and David’s Sling and Arrow are short-, medium- and long-range missiles, designed to intercept a variety of objects, including enemy aircraft, drones, ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles.
The defense ministry of Israel for the first time performed successful firing tests of a wide range of new sea-borne aerial defense systems. Tests were performed by Rafael Advanced Systems and Tel Aviv s Air Force and Navy, with targets fired from sea-based launchers imitating various missiles and drones, Fox News reported on Tuesday.
