The timeless trench coat
I previously confessed to a friend that I only ever wear my trench coat open. “What’s the point in having a coat that you don’t do up?” she asked. My reasoning was that I had always felt a trench, when undone, can create a gorgeous silhouette. The long lines draw the eye down from the neat collar, into a more fluid, airy cape shape. Worn closed, the trench coat can look matronly on my size 14 figure – tight, and constrictive across the bust. It’s a fair-weather coat, I argued.

The dresses that feel spring-like but will keep you warm
It’s the time of year affectionately known as Fool’s spring. In other words, you would be an absolute fool to think that it really is spring and then head outside in a whimsical floral dress with no tights on.
It is incredibly tempting, as soon as the first blossom arrives on the trees, to make the big seasonal wardrobe switchover and to pack away the knits and bring out the picnic checks. I’m not here to quash anyone’s optimism, but rather to share cautionary tales of goose-pimpled legs past.
