Waddesdon Manor reveals the secrets of its kitchen in a new online exhibition In February, the history and secrets of Waddesdon Manor’s kitchen and the people who worked in it are revealed in a fascinating new online exhibition. A grainy black and white photograph, taken around 1900, not only shows just how accurately Waddesdon Manor’s impressive kitchen was restored in the 1990s, but also prompts an intriguing question; who are the people gathered around the very table that the photo is now displayed on? Catherine Taylor, head archivist, said: “We don’t know for certain who the staff in the photo are, but I’m fairly certain that Alice de Rothschild’s chef at the time the photo was taken was M. Bonnar, who died in 1915 in a car accident while in Brighton, where Miss Alice was spending the war.”
This story is part of an EdSurge Research series about early childhood education.
âCircle timeâ conjures an image of children sitting close together, cross-legged, on a brightly colored rug as a teacher guides them through the dayâs routines and lessons. The kids might be asked to describe what the weather is like, verbalize how theyâre feeling or practice a new letter in the alphabet. And most likely, theyâll do it all while singing, clapping and laughing.
This seemingly harmless practice, like so many others, has been complicated by the pandemic. A group of children packed tightly into one space? That defies social distancing guidelines. Sharing a carpet? Only if the fabric can be wiped down and disinfected. Singing and laughing for a sustained period of time? Thatâs risky, as these actions produce large volumes of respiratory droplets.
THE Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Angie O’Grady, has urged the people of the town to spread love, and kindness this Christmas. In the traditional message on behalf of the Town Council and Miss Alice, she said: “The year 2020 will certainly be a year we will all never forget. As this ghastly year draws to a close together let us spread love, kindness and all the care that is within our hearts. Let us all spend a moment to think of others who are trying to struggle through tough times and think of the many who have lost dear loved ones.
