After a holiday hiatus, Public Health Manitoba announced hundreds of new cases of COVID-19 and more than two-dozen deaths as a result of the virus over the Christmas weekend.
Between 9:30 a.m. Dec. 24 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the province recorded 524 new cases of the virus and 28 deaths.
Of those cases, 245 were reported in Winnipeg, 101 cases were recorded in the Northern health region, 96 cases were reported in the Interlake-Eastern health region, 58 cases in the Southern health-Sante Sud region and 24 in the Prairie Mountain health region.

Of the dead, 21 were from the Winnipeg health region, three were from Northern, three were from Southern Health-Santé Sud and one was from Interlake-Eastern.
Twenty of the deaths were linked to outbreaks.
Winnipeg had the most new cases of the virus, at 245, followed by 101 in Northern, 96 in Interlake-Eastern, 58 in Southern Health-Santé Sud and 24 in Prairie Mountain Health.
WINNIPEG Twenty-eight more Manitobans have died from COVID-19, including a woman in her 30s from the Winnipeg health region. Announced in the province s daily COVID-19 bulletin on Sunday, the numbers include data from December 25 and 26, as the province took a holiday break during those two days. Out of the deaths, 21 are in the Winnipeg region, with 17 linked to senior-care facilities in the city. The non-senior-care related deaths in Winnipeg include a woman in her 30s, a man in his 60s, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 80s. Also in Winnipeg, four deaths were linked to Convalescent Care Home, three deaths were linked to Poseidon Care Centre, two deaths were linked to Charleswood Care Centre, two deaths were linked to Holy Family Home and two deaths were linked to St. Norbert Personal Care Home.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 12.1 per cent provincially and 12.5 per cent in Winnipeg. Between 9:30am on December 24 and 9:30am on December 27, 2020, 524 new cases of the virus have been identified, which brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 24,145.
Public health officials advise 28 additional deaths in people with COVID-19 have been reported today for the period from Dec. 24 to 27 including:
a female in her 30s from the Winnipeg health region;
a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region;
a male in his 60s from the Northern health region;
