WESTFIELD In less than 48 hours since the Masso family lost their Orange Street home in a fire, the community has come together to raise funds and organize clothing and meals for the extended family of 11.
Miriam Masso, along with her husband, David Gonzalez, sister, Melissa Masso, parents Jose and Ketty Masso and children Mariela, 13, David, 11, Gabriella, 10, Victoria, 9, Noel, 7, and Nickolai, 6, escaped the fire without injury about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Their dog, lizards, and birds are also safe and are being housed by Westfield Animal Control.
The family is staying at a city hotel where the management upgraded them from rooms to a suite at no extra charge.
