Successor to Jens Stoltenberg: Romania s President Iohannis wants to become NATO Secretary General

Klaus Iohannis confirms he wants to become NATO Secretary General. Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is considered the favorite for the post. Stoltenberg's successor is expected to be announced before the NATO summit in Washington in July. Romania is currently represented at the top of NATO by Mircea Geoana, who is NATO Deputy Secretary General and is not allowed to run for president again after two terms in office. The country already spends 2.5 percent of its gross domestic product on defense.
