it sounds like something straight out of a mystery novel. three americans die at the same resort in the dominican republic within days of one another. it s all too real for the families involved. cnn s randi kaye has the report. miranda schaup-werner and her husband dan flew to the dominican republic to celebrate their anniversary. checking into the hotel on may 25th. but their celebration soon turned tragic. after miranda made a drink from the mini bar, she suddenly couldn t breathe. she called out to dan and he came right over and she was unable to breathe. she collapsed. she couldn t communicate. reporter: both her husband and emts tried to revive her, but the 41-year-old psychotherapist from allentown, pennsylvania could not be saved.
called in to help out with the toxicology reports. we are live in the dominican republic at the resort and rosa, what is the result from the autopsy? reporter: well, brooke, as you mentioned, the autopsy results, the preliminary autopsy results have been issued and this is according to the attorney general s office here in the dominican republic, let me start with miranda schaup-werner. she s the woman from pennsylvania. the preliminary result is a heart attack. now we don t have a lot of details. so that is the only thing that i could share with you at the moment. now about the maryland couple, nathaniel edward holmes and cynthia ann day, there were reports. for both of them, internal bleeding of the pancreas and fluid in the lungs. as for ann day, fluid in the brain as well. now i should note that toxicology results are still pending.
