Mother of Bagerhat UP chairman dies of COVID-19

Her funeral prayer service will be held in Bagerhat town after Zuhr prayers on Saturday. Afterwards she will be laid to rest at the family graveyard. Bagerhat-1 MP Sheikh Helal Uddin, Bagerhat-2 MP Sheikh Tonmoy, members of the upazila administration, the Bagerhat Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League, Swechasebak League and a variety of organisations have expressed condolences to the family.

Medical staff at different hospitals of the district have been grappling with the sudden influx as they provided treatment to more than 600 diarrhoea patients in the past week alone, while 200 of the patients still remain hospitalised. Dr KM Humayun Kabir, civil surgeon of Bagerhat, said the incidence of waterborne diseases has increased due to drinking of contaminated water.

More than 200 patients are still hospitalised as of today, reports our Bagerhat correspondent. Due to extreme heat and drought and drinking contaminated water due to drying up of pond water, the outbreaks of waterborne diseases have increased, said Dr KM Humayun Kabir, civil surgeon of Bagerhat. In the meantime, an acute crisis of saline is going on at the hospitals which the authorities acknowledged and said was due to the sudden increase in the number of patients. However, they are trying their best so that patients do not have to buy drugs from outside.
