we ve got the snow there i went to show you what air their area parts of the great lakes we have been really dry this winter so far as far as snow goes and the football game here, buffalo pittsburgh game postponed until monday because of the stoves wil be falling there. also another game in kansas, kansas city temps they are below zero. it s really dangerous conditions. now get towards iowa what we have the storm moved through its bringing out lake effect snow. windy conditions behind this and we have had so much snowfall. not just from this storm we had another storm earlier this week. take a look at the snow that s on the ground and iowa. we have a lot of the state well over a foot of snow for that the snow not going anywhere it s going to continue to blow around with the really strong winds. those wins right now making it feel like minus 42 in sheldon, iowa. spencer at minus 37 to get the idea it is really cold. tonight is probably going to be the coldest of the air mass that moves
denver, current windchill, minus 38 and des moines minus 37 and amarillo, texas, looking at a minus 26 windchill. so this is not limited to just the northern states like we re used to seeing. one thing to note is the incredibly heavy snowfall that is expected to cross the midwest today. that is going to slide through cities like chicago, detroit, st. louis, even cincinnati. so if you have some travel plans in and around those cities, there may be more delays and additional cancellations not just in the air but also on the roadways as well. across the northeast, it is a bit of rain and snow and a little bit of ice mixed for today and then another round of snow as the main section of the system begins to push in tomorrow. so a lot of things going on here in the short-term. we talked about the main spots for today. by the time we get to friday morning, again, still some rain showers across boston and washington, d.c., but then notice you start to see that colder air beginning to funnel ba
minus 59. again, the concern there is that frostbite sets in five to ten minutes when dealing with numbers like that. here again, not much better. denver currently the wind chill minus 37. des moines, minus 34. even amarillo, texas, minus 26. so again, even places you don t normally think about being cold are dealing with this same blast of cold air. we also have the same system that is now sliding off to the midwest and into the northeast. this has a lot of snow for some midwestern states. over towards the east, you still have some little bit of warmer air. so we re dealing with that rain-snow mix for a lot of cities before the bulk of that snow on the back begins to make its way into the northeast for tomorrow. you have a lot of areas dealing with blizzard warnings, winter storm watches and warnings. heavy snow in chicago and st. louis. boston and washington, d.c., even tomorrow morning though, jim, still looking at pretty good rain showers. we ll be waiting for them
united states. i ll show you that in a moment, but as we look through the next couple of days, we ll continue to see those temperatures falling and we will be watching for places like kansas city to be below zero as well. in the south, we are not leaving you out either. atlanta, just 12 degrees by saturday, charleston coming in at 3 degrees for the high on saturday as well. here s some of the coldest wind chills we expect. douglas, minus 60, denver minus 37. places like jacksonville are going to be in the teens, and houston just 2 degrees for your windchill. we have 50 states that will see windchills below 32 degrees, and we have 46 states that are going to be below zero. and we have snow, rain, blizzard conditions that will be super impactful for joe, people that are traveling, on the roadways, and we could see major power outages across the northeast and across the midwest here as we go through the coming days. and of course it s the holidays, people want to get together with familie
