In a virtual presser, Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) head, Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, said the Department of Health (DOH) has pegged the target number of individuals to be vaccinated during the two-day National Vaccination Days at 58,000. During the nationwide vaccination activity, the city government will open 40 vaccination sites in clustered barangays, including the 11 fixed inoculation sites regularly administering Covid-19 jabs. "We are all set for tomorrow (Feb.10). We have informed our volunteers on their assignments. CEBU CITY Amid growing opposition from various sectors, the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) decided not to push through with the holding of physical activities for the Sinulog Festival. Vice Mayor Michael Rama, convenor of the Sinulog Festival, on Thursday led the announcement of the cancellation of the street dancing and grand ritual showdown that was supposed to be held on January 17. The city has allocated P25 million for this year’s Sinulog Festival. In a statement that was read by executive committee member Neil Odchique, the SFI said it decided to cancel the physical activities upon the advice of City Mayor Edgardo Labella.

endIndex: Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 6) The Cebu Medical Society has expressed opposition to city government plans of holding Sinulog-related activities amid rising cases of COVID-19. “We strongly oppose the holding of Sinulog 2021 and other related activities, CMS President Dr. Minnie Monteclaro said in a statement on Wednesday. The CMS, which is composed of 15 medical specialist groups in Cebu, noted that the celebration of the Sinulog Festival is a convergence of spectators and performers. These mass gatherings increase the risk of transmitting the virus, thus it is best to stay at home, it added. Vice Mayor Michael Rama earlier said the Sinulog Festival showdown will be held this year in an open parking space without any audiences on Jan. 17.
