Anoka County District Court Judge Thomas Lehmann heard arguments Monday in a challenge to a new state law that more quickly restores voting rights. Under it, voting eligibility kicks back in when incarceration ends, regardless of a person’s supervised release or probation status.
An estimated 55,000 Minnesotans convicted of felonies had their voting rights restored in June and will have their first opportunity to vote on Nov. 7.
The Restore the Vote Act restored the right to vote to about 55,000 Minnesotans with felony convictions who have served their sentences or who are on probation, or supervised release.
