We wrote here about the new teachers contract for the Minneapolis School District, which provides that white teachers will be laid off first, regardless of seniority, and if teachers are called back after a layoff, white teachers will be called back last. The blatant racism of this contract provision attracted a great deal of adverse comment, but the teachers union is sticking to its story: The president and vice president
terrifyingly boring direction. i don t care about facts about minneapolis. the only thing i care about minneapolis, wasn t that where mary tyler moore was in the mary tyler moore show? yeah. greg: thank you [cheers and applause]. greg: that s a fact! she could turn the world on with her smile! she could take a nothing day and make it seem all worthwhile. cause it s you, babe, and you re going to know it. and it s you babe you re going to show it. love is all around. you don t need to fake it tom. tom: i wish you sang the theme tyou bring a punk rock energy. greg: i can t believe i remembered every single world. greg: love is all around. you can take it? you re going to make it after all. that s it. greg: give me something before we leave. tom: i like to look at the silver lining in any story and i think this could be a good thing for guys like me because we re always running up against that argument. people say when have you run up
greg: i speak of the minneapolis school district where white teachers will now be laid off first before teachers of color regardless of experience. of course, that sounds like a violation of the civil rights act of 1866 which passed despite opposition from a young joe biden. it s all part of a new contract between district and the teachers union whose purpose is to redress past discrimination which they say resulted in a lack of diversity. so to fix the past illegality we must break the law now. the goal is to get school staff to mirror the demographics of kids they teach. they better eat more. so now [laughter] greg: i don t know why i said that. i don t know why i said that. because all the kids are fat these days. that s why i said it. and i m going to keep saying it. i don t care. they don t watch this show. kids are getting fat.
Among the top District 205 initiatives this year was to develop a “Long-Term Strategic Plan” that prioritizes Social-Emotional Learning. The D205 website, under the heading “SEL Mission”, proclaims it is “strongly committed to developing safe and healthy environments where everyone thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.”
