Tue Jun 01 2021 A few weeks ago, an unidentified disease killed six persons in Koya village of Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State. It also left many others hospitalised. It wasn’t long before the disease was identified to be cholera, and an outbreak confirmed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). According to a report by the NCDC, there were 158 suspected cases of cholera in the recent outbreak in the state, with 11 deaths recorded. Daily Trust had earlier spoken to the village head of the community, Sulaiman Muhammad, who confirmed the deaths, adding that about 40 other persons were hospitalised with diarrhoea and vomiting.

Strange disease: Kano govt confirms outbreak, six persons dead On By Bashir Bello, Kano The Kano State Government has on Monday confirmed the death of six individuals following an outbreak of a strange disease that hit Koya village, Minjibir Local Government Area of the state. The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa confirmed the outbreak which has symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea to newsmen in the state on Monday. Tsanyawa said 52 persons were affected by the outbreak, out of which six died, 28 were discharged and 18 still on admission. The commissioner attributed the root cause of the outbreak to open defecation and unhygienic practices by the citizens.
