The Ministry of Defense (Mindef) and Armed Forces urged all citizens to respect the results of the presidential runoff election held last Sunday and to work together with the aim of strengthening democracy and boosting development in the country. In a statement, Mindef reminded citizens that the Political Constitution establishes that the primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to guarantee the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic. Likewise, the government agency specified that the armed institutions are deliberative and subordinate to the constitutional power. Therefore, any call to interrupt this task is inappropriate for a democracy.
