Cabinet sub-committee discusses proposals for new financial support scheme to help businesses reopen

Some of these businesses would include sole traders such as florists and bookmakers. Certain sole traders have not qualified for CRSS, the government’s current wage subsidy scheme for businesses impacted by coronavirus restrictions. Around €239 million has to date been claimed under the CRSS in respect of 20,000 business premises, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe told the Dáil last week. The weekly sub-Cabinet meeting was attended by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Ministers Eamon Ryan, Michael McGrath, Catherine Martin, Paschal Donohoe, Simon Coveney and Heather Humphreys as well as their officials. The scheme will be demand led and it is understood that the amounts the scheme will cost are yet to be determined.

Green leadership attempts to allay concerns over CETA

Green leadership attempts to allay concerns over CETA Updated / Wednesday, 16 Dec 2020 16:28 Political Correspondent Green Party Cabinet ministers have written to the party membership to allay concerns regarding the EU-Canadian trade deal known as CETA. The ratification of the deal was postponed in the Dáil earlier this week due to concerns expressed by Green deputies like Neasa Hourigan. In the letter, which is signed by Ministers Eamon Ryan, Catherine Martin, Roderic O Gorman and super junior Minister Pippa Hackett, they say they recognise that CETA is a difficult issue.   The letter states that while some concerns remain , the Cabinet members believe that that CETA has been improved - in particular the investment dispute mechanism.
