Multi-block units nearing completion - Barbados Today

Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dwight Sutherland has announced that five four-block units at Alleyne’s Court, Whitepark Road, will be completed by the end of October.Sutherland said the rent-to-own units will address some of the housing challenges in the urban corridor. Ten per cent of the houses would be allocated to persons with disabilities.The minister also indicated that an additional three ‘quads’ are to be built at Eden Lodge and construction has started on 11 metal homes from East-West Solutions (Barbados), at Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church.“The design work has finished, Town and Country Planning and Development has approved it, and work has started there. This will provide another 10 to 12 houses at Sargeant’s,” Sutherland said, as he gave the House of Assembly an update on the Government’s 10 000 housing project. Forde appeals for home repairs, housing solutions for St Thomas residents

Member of Parliament for St Thomas Cynthia Forde has complained that more than a year after Hurricane Elsa and a freak storm damaged about 80 houses in her constituency, many residents were still waiting for repairs to either start or finish.And on Tuesday in the House of Assembly, she pleaded with the relevant authorities to get on the case.Forde said she wanted to see constituents benefitting from the same kind of repairs being carried out in other parts of the country.“And I am not badgering anybody. I am just saying that I want the houses finished. I have photographs of grass growing almost as tall as the houses and I don’t know who the contractors are.“I want to know how many houses in St Thomas have been repaired because I cannot tell you two. I want to know how many have not yet been visited, and I have the list. Even though I write and request a report, even though I send the WhatsApp messages and the photographs, I still am not getting the responses,” the MP said.

Fifteen more squatters in Rock Hall, St Philip will be moving into their new homes by November while work continues on completing houses for the scores of others that still remain.Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dwight Sutherland made this disclosure to Barbados TODAY on Monday while giving an update on the relocation project.He said his ministry was making headway but the Hurricane Elsa relief effort continued to put a strain on the project.“Thus far, we have moved seven people to Parish Land extension in St Philip where some 22 houses were constructed to relocate residents from Rock Hall. The other 15 people will be relocated by November 2022,” he said.
