ISLAMABAD: The government Tuesday offered the slot of deputy chairman Senate to JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, who has also been nominated by PDM for the same slot.
Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak made the offer in a bid to get Haideri’s support for the top slot of the Upper House of Parliament.
“We offer him the seat of the Senate deputy chairman,” Khattak said while responding to a volley of questions during an informal talk with newsmen in the corridors of the Parliament House after a meeting with JUI-F senior leader. Haideri, whose party is also a member of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), however, said neither he could predict who would be elected as the Senate chairman on March 12 nor had he been informed about PDM’s decision about candidates for the top slots of Senate. KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday in a meeting with Senator-elect Mohammad Abdul Qadir welcomed him into the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) despite strong opposition from Balochistan leadership and zonal heads of the party who had earlier compelled the central high command to withdraw a party ticket awarded to him.
Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak and PTI chief organiser Saifullah Niazi were present at the meeting in which the construction business tycoon, who was recently elected to the upper house of parliament as an independent candidate, announced joining the PTI again.

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) senior leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri on Tuesday clarified that he had not been offered the deputy chairman Senate post by the government.
Earlier, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak had said that the ruling party had conveyed to Haideri that he can be the deputy chairman Senate.

ISLAMABAD: Senator-elect Muhammad Abdul Qadir, who won the Senate polls as an independent, has joined the PTI and reposed confidence in PM Imran Khan, Geo News reported Tuesday.
According to the report, the newly-elected lawmaker met PM Imran Khan in Islamabad and announced that he would be joining the party.
The prime minister welcomed his joining.
Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak and PTI chief organizer Saifullah Niazi were also present in the meeting.
Muhammad Abdul Qadir was the independent candidate for the Senate election with the joint support of PTI and the Balochistan Awami Party.
