EMA head calls for clearer fireworks laws

EMA managing director Hayden Romano has said there needs to be clearer legislation about where and when fireworks can be used, as well as a move to noiseless fireworks.
He is calling on government to consider these recommendations in 2021.
Romano said he hoped that since all celebrations this year have been low-key, the same could happen for the new year. But he said he had noted media reports of increased sales of fireworks. He added, however, “We are using our social media to educate people on the effect of noise, especially on older people, babies and children, and animals.
ELIZABETH ALEONG, who was unable to walk or talk after suffering a bilateral stroke two years ago, received the Angostura Champions Award 2020 last weekend for her work with special needs children.
Aleong has been working with special needs children, including two of her own, through the Caribbean Kids and Family Therapy Organisation (CKFTO).
She received a trophy and $50,000 which will be put to use for her organisation.
The Champions Award initiative is Angosturaâs way of recognising and paying tribute to those in society who give of themselves selflessly to assist others.
It is a biennial programme which was first hosted in 2018, for which Angostura received hundreds of nominations from across Trinidad and Tobago. This year was no different.

TWO years ago, Elizabeth Aleong was unable to walk or talk after suffering a bilateral stroke.
After several months of intense therapy, she was able to walk onto the stage of Angostura Holdings Ltd on Saturday night to claim the title Angostura Champion 2020 for her work with special needs children.
She received a trophy and $50,000 which will be channelled into her organisation.
