Tamil Nadu launches mini-clinics to provide essential healthcare services for poor

With Tamil Nadu gearing up for elections next year, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday launched a project to set up 2,000 mini-clinics across the state to provide essential healthcare services to the downtrodden.
People will be treated for minor ailments like cold, fever, headache, etc at these clinics, which are being set up to reduce overcrowding in government hospitals that are already packed with Covid-19 cases.

Chennai: The 70
th birthday of actor Rajinikanth was celebrated by his fans and admirers with verve and enthusiasm outside his house in Poes Garden by cutting cake and raising slogans in praise of him despite the superstar being away at Bengaluru on Saturday.
His fans also organized special prayers at various temples for the welfare of Rajinikanth, blood donation camps and poor feeding across the state. Wall posters were put up all over the State by his fans, hailing him as the ‘future Chief Minister.’

Chennai: After the cyclone Nivar and Burevi, Chennai neighbourhood faces water havoc as flooding continues. Chennai Corporation to build five new drains in the city s south. The stormwater drains project will cost around Rs 400 crore to the civic body. Out of five drain projects, three will be built by Chennai Corporation and the other two by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Several Chennai localities struggle with overflowing sewage water due to the stormwater. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami government has approved stormwater drains project for low-lying areas which were flooded with water, uprooted trees, and power cuts. Tamil Nadu government is all set to improve the sewage system and strengthen infrastructure.�
PM Modi on Friday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed Tamil poet-writer Subramania Bharati on his birth anniversary, saying his government is inspired by his vision for women empowerment.
Modi was addressing the International Bharati Festival 2020, virtually organised by the Vanavil Cultural Centre to celebrate the 138th birth anniversary of the poet. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and was also present.
Bharati “believed in a healthy mix between the ancient and the modern” and “he saw wisdom in staying connected with our roots as well as looking towards the future”, the Prime Minister said. “He (Bharati) sang songs of the greatness of ancient India, the greatness of the Vedas and Upanishads, our culture, tradition and our glorious past. But at the same time, he also warned us that simply living in the past glory is not enough. We need to develop a scientific temper, a spirit of enquiry and march towards progress.”
SC verdict on Chennai-Salem highway a boost for development

On December 8 the Supreme Court upheld the land acquisition process for the controversial Chennai-Salem expressway. In a relief to the Tamil Nadu government, which over the last few years has seen a series of project stymied by protests and litigation, the apex court reversed the order of the Madras High Court that had quashed the acquisition notification. The 277-km eight-lane greenfield expressway from Chennai to Salem is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the state capital and the industrial hubs in the western part of the state leading up to Coimbatore.
