NEW DELHI: The Centre and the CBI on Monday told the Supreme Court that it should scrutinise the chargesheet filed by Odisha police into the politically sensitive alleged rape and murder of a five year old girl last year as there are widespread apprehensions in local public mind about the child being killed by mafia indulging in illegal organ harvesting racket.
During the hearing on a writ petition filed by victim s mother Saudamini Sahoo, solicitor general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and the CBI, told a bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Sanjiv Khanna that even in politically motivated proceedings in 2005 cases relating to fake encounter killings of Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram Prajapati, the SC had decisively intervened after filing of the chargesheet and had ordered fresh probe by the CBI.

Nayagarh SDPO transferred, IIC suspended Post News Network
Bhubaneswar: Taking action on the alleged murder of minor girl Pari, state government Thursday suspended Nayagarh Sadar IIC Rinarani Sahoo and transferred sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Niranjan Padhi to Kandhamal.
Sahoo and Padhi were supervising the Pari case, which created hue and cry in the state following a self-immolation bid by her parents in front of Assembly here. The cops were under scanner for their roles in handling the murder case. Pari’s mother had also alleged that the local IIC was ‘torturing’ her.
Meanwhile, Opposition BJP and Congress continued their attacks on the government over the issue and raised questions on the probe by a special investigation team (SIT). Newly-appointed state BJP in-charge Daggubati Purandeswari Thursday visited Jadupur village in Nayagarh and met the parents of the deceased girl.

The investigation of murder was intentionally played down upon the direction of Minister Arun Sahoo, the deceased’s mother added.
“I had already expressed that the IIC of Sadar police station has links with Minister Arun Sahoo. She has been deliberately investigating the murder in a different angle, in order to shield the prime accused Babuli Nayak including the Minister Sahoo. Why has she not been arrested or interrogated so far,” Pari’s mother questioned.
Police picked up Pari’s parents from their house at 10am on the 12th day of her murder. They were dropped at their house around midnight. The IIC has been forcing for a false confession, the mother stated.
