large he looms in american conscience. absolutely. that is an issue that comes up repeatedly in high-profile cases. the answer to that, that the judges and juries deal with is, you have a very rigorous process in terms of selecting a jury. it will be a challenge. it s gonna be a challenge no matter when it is. it could happen tomorrow, and it would be a challenge, it would happen in two years and it would be a challenge. it really is an ill irrelevancy which isn t an issue that the defense used for which is why they said you need to have it after the election. the only reason they re saying that is because they are hoping that trump or another sympathetic republican wins the white house so this case goes away. i was gonna ask you, this is such an abnormal set of circumstances. in some ways the battle between smith s office and trump s lawyers is this battle between normal and abnormal. they want to lean on it in many ways that he s running for president. he s a candidate.
grand juries do important work. if you are selected to serve you actually miss out, maybe that s a reference to what s to come. and the final question here, the procedures been a bit complicated. there was a special grand jury that had empaneled, that had heard all this evidence. they created a report. that s something that i believe you can do under georgia law. famously one of those jurors came forward strike whether experience. but they did not for the indictments. now she has to take the evidence, her office, and go before this grand jury, to return true bills or indictments. exactly. the special grand jury the first one produced a report after hearing information supplied and another district attorney s office. by the way, the report was released and redacted saying that there was no trump and his allies had suggested in the report. also suggested someone may have
yeah, and there s this thing that republicans and conservatives have done that i find grows and racist, which is this idea that donald trump can t get a fair trial in washington d.c.. lindsey graham said this, and new york. and you know why? because a lot of people don t like trump. red, a lot of people, is the subtext. sometimes explicit tax, there s been similar noises made about fulton county. it does seem to be important not to fall into a reverse notion of that which is, you ve just got to hope that the process works. this whole thing is kind of attached to the process. one of the biggest tests ever going to get. and yet the hope of jury selection can actually find people that are fair and open minded. yeah. i mean i couldn t agree with you more. that s 100 percent right. one of the things going on that has eroded faith in the systems is that the constant be rating without proof or substantiation of these prosecutors and
interest in the rights of the accused. now the accused, don trump, is asking him to delay that speedy trial, a right he is granted, just like any criminal defendant in the country. is not just ask you to delay it. he flat out asking to push it off until after the election. let s take a step back here. we knew this was coming, right? you knew it, i know it, we all know it. this was always the plan. it was telegraphed for the last years with trump and his associates as we start with in lots of different reporting so different sources. in fact, the new york times reported last july, during the height of the january 6th hearings, that trump had accelerated his planning for office as the pair of investigations had intensified. it was reported last summer that trump has told associates of the legal protections of being president were front of mind for him in his decision to run for the office again. donald trump knew there was a good chance of being indicted in the multitude of investigati
people. i do a lot of work, for instance, in a prison system. and people say man, you ve never been to prison. how do you relate to the? brothers it isn t about folks who look in your eye and know if your sincere allot. i want to work for working. families i m a single dad. i m running because of my son pierce. because we need leadership to get it into the future. and i think people can feel that. i appreciate your being here. he ll harper, candidate for u.s. senate for michigan. that s all in with chris hayes starts right now. tonight, on all. in my office will seek a speedy rebuttal in this matter consistent with public interest in the rights of the accused. the undated ex president lays his cards on the table. delay the trial indefinitely, when the white house, and dismiss the charges. if trump becomes president, he gets to appoint the new attorney general, who could dismiss the case altogether. i think the ultimate goal here. meanwhile, in fulton county
