TO ADDRESS the drought-induced water shortage, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) reopened a deep well at Guadalajara St., Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, on Monday, April 29, 2024.
THE Buhisan Dam is no longer producing water, and with its other water sources also seeing problems, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) said its total production has now plummeted 21 percent.
THE struggle over the management of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) continues, but the camp of Jose Daluz III, chairman of the board of directors suspended by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), voiced willingness to meet with the LWUA-appointed officer-in-charge general manager, but only “as a person,” not as a general manager.
THE executive department of Cebu City Hall has denied allegations that it has not given the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) excavation permits that could have addressed the lack of water in the city’s upland barangays.
However, based on the records of MCWD through their contractors, three applications for excavation permits of pipeline expansion projects remain unapproved by the City since 2023.
Based on MCWD records, the pipeline expansion projects in Barangay Binaliw, Cambinocot, and Guba are still pending in the City Hall.
The application for an excavation permit for the one in Binaliw was submitted on July 3, 2023, the one in Cambinocot was submitted on May 11, and in Guba was on Nov. 11.
