University College Cork, a research event on lessons from EU peacebuilding organised by the Irish Association for Contemporary European Studies, a Future of Europe podcast series hosted by The European Network, an interactive online EU Policy map produced by the DCU Brexit Institute, as well as a number of 2 nd and 3   Commenting on the initiative, Minister Byrne said ‘ As we engage with the Conference on the Future of Europe, I’m very excited about the range of projects put forward this year under the Communicating Europe Initiative, including the impressive numbers of counties involved. Last year, the virtual nature of CEI projects allowed us to reach out to much greater numbers of Irish citizens from diverse backgrounds than in the past. I am confident this level of engagement will continue as we initiate our national discussions on the role of Europe in our lives, and our communities, in the years to come.’

Min Byrne announces €100k available through Communicating Europe Initiative News 04 March 2021 Minister Byrne announces €100k available to community and voluntary organizations to promote dialogue on Ireland’s relationship with Europe   The Minister of State for European Affairs, Mr Thomas Byrne, TD, has today invited voluntary organisations, educational bodies and civil society groups to apply for funding under the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Communicating Europe Initiative.   The Communicating Europe Initiative is aimed at deepening public awareness of the role the EU plays in our daily lives and at improving the quality and accessibility of public information on European issues, particularly at regional or national level.

Min Byrne to speak at online European Movement Ireland event launching new Portuguese Presidency Press release 14 January 2021 Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, TD, will speak today at an online event hosted by European Movement Ireland to mark the beginning of Portugal’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Minister will speak alongside Portugal’s Ambassador to Ireland, Miguel de Almeida e Sousa. The Minister will reaffirm Ireland’s commitment to working constructively with the Portuguese Presidency during its six-month term. He will also provide an outline of Ireland’s key EU priorities over the coming month.
