The Myanmar military said Monday it was handing power to commander in chief Min Aung Hlain because the November election won by the party of Nobel peace prize winner Aung Sand Suu Kyi had been rigged. She and other leading politicians were detained. In a TV statement, the military said a state of emergency had been declared for one year and power transferred. Soldiers are on the streets of the capital. The military previously ruled the country until democratic reforms were instituted in 2011.
