The Milwaukee mayor's office proposes pay raises for the mayor, common council members and other city leaders. The proposal calls for a 15% raise for those who are elected and a 10% boost for 60 non-elected leaders, including the police and fire chiefs and commissioners of public works and health.
The city of Milwaukee's annual budget is about $300 million, making up nearly all the property taxes the city has coming in. Each year, a portion of funds from crime seizures helps the police department out.
