The Army EOD team from Athlone attended the scene of an unexplained device in Tuam earlier today, and have now made the device safe.
They have left the scene and removed what has been deemed to be a viable explosive device from the location.
An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Millstream Park or Weir Road in Tuam from approximately 10pm last night and 8.30am this morning, and who may have information to make contact with them at Tuam Garda Station on (093) 70840.

Man arrested after stealing St. Cloud police squad car

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (FOX 9) - St. Cloud police arrested a 25-year-old man after he stole an unlocked police squad car Thursday night, according to St. Cloud police.
Around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a Kwik Trip along County Road 120 on the report of a suspicious person. The officer spoke with the man outside the store and determined nothing criminal had happened, but when the officer went inside to speak with an employee, the man got in the squad car and drove off.
Stearns County dispatch traced the vehicle s GPS, which showed it went from St. Cloud through Waite Park and stopped at the Millstream Park in St. Joseph. Police did not follow the squad in an active pursuit.
Man Arrested for Taking St. Cloud Squad Car on Joy Ride
ST. CLOUD A man has been arrested after taking a St. Cloud squad car for a joy ride Thursday night.
An officer was called to Kwik Trip at 6250 County Road 120 at around 7:15 p.m. in response to a suspicious person call.
The officer made contact with a man in the parking lot identified as 25-year-old Alexander Butcher. Police say Butcher was cooperative and they determined nothing criminal happened.
As the officer went inside the store to speak with an employee, Butcher entered the unlocked squad car and left the scene.
