Chicago police said five people were killed and 28 others were injured in 28 separate shootings over the weekend. That included a 17-year-old killed Friday, a 19-year-old killed Saturday and Seandell Holliday, 16, who was shot and killed near “The Bean” sculpture.
The 17-year-old was charged on suspicion of second-degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon and aggravated battery with a laser device on a firearm, authorities said.
At 16, Seandell Holliday had big plans ahead of him: He wanted to provide for his family and, a drummer, he wanted to make his own music and open his own studio.
“He said there are a lot of things that happen in Chicago, you see so many kids lose their lives at early ages . He couldn’t even make it to 17,” the boy’s mentor said.
"Tonight, a mother is grief-stricken, mourning the loss of her child and searching for answers. My heart is breaking for the mother as she grieves this unspeakable loss," said Mayor Lightfoot
