Walz orders flags at half-staff in honor of paramedic who died on duty

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Governor Tim Walz is ordering flags to be flown at half-staff at federal and state government buildings on Thursday in honor of a Minnesota paramedic who died while on duty last week.
Toby Rowan was responding to a medical call when he collapsed at the scene and later passed away, according to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office. Rowan worked as a paramedic for the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

Crosby, MN (KROC-AM News) - A procession of law enforcement and emergency vehicles from across Minnesota participated in a procession Thursday evening that accompanied the hearse transporting the body of a central Minnesota paramedic who died in the line of duty Wednesday night.
Officials in Mille Lacs County say 47-year-old Toby Rowan, who served as a paramedic for the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia, collapsed after he and other emergency responders were called to the scene of a medical emergency. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and both Rowan and the original patient died.

A 69-year-old Isle, Minnesota, woman was driving a Chevy Silverado just before 6:30 p.m. at a high rate of speed through the Super Stop parking lot off of Highway 169 in South Harbor Township, Mille Lacs County, when she struck a woman who was leaving the store.
The victim, 72-year-old Gloria M. Rosekrans, of Brainerd, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, the State Patrol said.
The driver and two 12-year-old children who were in the Silverado all sustained non-critical injuries and were taken to Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia for care.
A central Minnesota paramedic collapsed and died Wednesday night while on duty.
Toby Rowan had just finished responding to a medical call for the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia and was still on the scene when he collapsed, according to a statement from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff s Office.
Sheriff s deputies and other paramedics who had responded to the call attempted to revive Rowan, but were unsuccessful.
The patient who Rowan was trying to save also died, the sheriff s office said.
Rowan had worked for the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for the past five years. His wife, Darcy, is a nurse at the hospital, which is located in Crosby.
